Inspired by Luke 10:38-42 MSG
For years, I’ve been inspired by the story in the Bible of the two sisters, Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42). And I’ve been learning about the importance of slowing down and sitting quietly with Jesus. I have to admit, I’ve spent too many years as a recovering Martha. Always busy doing things for Jesus, but not actually spending time with Him. Instead of being more like Mary, who simply sat at Jesus’ feet, listening to Him and deepening her relationship with Him. In that moment, she chose what was better, and Jesus affirmed her choice. I’ve come to the realization that I need to choose what is better by sitting quietly at Jesus’ feet drawing closer to Him.
But let me be honest, my journey to becoming more like Mary is messy. I stumble and fall, but Jesus is always there to pick me up and dust me off. I may still have messy edges, but I’m more like Mary now than ever before.
Choose What Is Better
I have to confess that sometimes my old Martha voice still clucks in my ear, telling me to go, go, go! However, I’ve learned that to fully embrace the gift of relationship that Jesus has for me, I need to stop, sit, and be still at His feet. It is in the stillness that I can hear His quiet voice. The more time I spend quietly with Him, the more I have to offer Him and others.
And that’s what this podcast and blog are all about. It’s about my journey as a recovered Martha, embracing the gift of relationship that Jesus wants to give me (and all of us). Learning to be comfortable in the quiet stillness, simply listening. It is His healing love, joy, mercy, and compassion that inspire me to give voice to the messages He places on my heart. My prayer is that He will use these podcasts and blog posts to draw people into a deeper relationship with Him.
Today, I invite you to join me on this sometimes messy adventure we call life. And with Jesus’ help, let’s be less messy and choose what is better.
